Technologies 1ºESO

Asignatura en Inglés en Programa Bilingüe

Unit 2. Hardware & Software

As I told you, I leave here the PowerPoint presentation of the Software part (click here).

Here you can find the Microsoft Word practices you will have to complete this first term. They are taken from the website Tecno12-18.com.
- Practice 2. Changing font type and size (click here)
- Practice 3. Changing page orientation (click here)
- Practice 4. Working with Text Boxes (click here)
- Practice 5. Tables (click here)
- Practice 6. Columns (click here)
- Practice 7. Lists & Bullet Points (click here)
- Practice 8. WordArt Titles (click here)
- Practice 9. Inserting Images (click here)
- Practice 10. Page Borders (click here)

Once you have completed one practice, you will have to send it to me by email (antoniorh9@gmail.com).

If you complete the 10 practices, you should do a Powerpoint presentation on a topic of your choice, using text and images.
Remember that you need to use the user name and password I provided you with to be able to access the Tecno12-18 units.

In the following links you can access to the explanations on how some of the basic components of a computer work:
- Microprocessor or CPU (click aquí)
- RAM Memory (click aquí)
- Hard Drive (click aquí)
- Optical Devices(click aquí)
- Ports (click aquí)
- Peripherals: Input (click aquí), Output (click aquí) and Input-Output (click aquí).

Here you have the PowerPoint presentations we have been studying at class:
- Material Properties.(click here)
- Wood & Metals.(click here)

Units 4, 5 & 6. Materials: Wood & Metals

As some of you ask me to, I leave here a document with the table we used to analyse the properties of materials (click here).

These next practices will help you to learn the names of many tools you are going to use in the workshop. Every time you complete a test with no mistakes, tell your teacher to take note of your progress.
- Practice 1. Tools for measuring, marking and drawing (click here). Do the TEST
- Practice 2. Cutting tools (click here). Do the TEST
- Practice 3. Percussion tools (click here). Do the TEST
- Practice 4. Tools for filing and polishing (click here). Do the TEST
- Practice 5. Drilling tools (click here). Do the TEST
- Practice 6. Holding tools (click here). Do the TEST
- Practice 7. Screwdrivers and wrenches (click here). Do the TEST

When you finish all the practices, you have to complete the GLOBAL TEST. It has 70 questions, and you can only get 5 wrong.

Remember that you need to use the user name and password I provided you with to be able to access the Tecno12-18 units.

Unit 7. Graphic Expression and Communication

I leave here the PowerPoint presentation used in class for this unit (click here)

In the following link you can find a very interesting website, where it is shown, in a very illustrative way, how to draw the three main views of an object: AreaTecnologia.com.

Below you find the practices to be completed in the computer room:

The first three practices have the aim to introduce you to the identification of the views of an object. Every time you complete one, tell your teacher to take note of your progress.
- Practice 1. Front view (click here)
- Practice 2. Plan (Overhead) view (
- Practice 3. Side View (

Once you have completed the basic practices, you should be able to complete the next ones.
- Practice 4. Views I (
- Practice 5. Views II (
- Practice 6. Views III (
- Practice 7. Views IV (

To complete this unit, you will have to draw -in your notebooks- the views of some objects:
- Practice 8. Views of a House (
- Practice 9. Views of a Desk (
- Practice 10.
Views of a Van (click here)

Unit 8. Structures

The next links go to the Tecno12-18 units explaining the 5 main types of stress that materials can undergo.
- Compression. (
- Traction. (
- Bending. (
- Cutting or shear. (

- Torsion. (click here)

Down here you have the PowerPoint presentation we have been studying at class:
- Types of Artificial Structures. (click here)

Unit 9. Mechanisms

It is possible to find very interesting webs in Tecno12-18 dealing with the different mechanisms we study in this unit. Here you have some of them:
- Levers. (click here)
- Exercises on Levers (Level 1) (Level 2) (Level 3) (Level 4)
- Pulleys (click here)
- Gears (click here)
- Exercises on Gears (Level 1) (Level 2) (Level 3) (Level 4)
- Rack & Pinion. (click here)   - Worm Gear (click here)
- Crank-Slider (click here)

To help you prepare the exam I include here the PowerPoint presentation we used in class. The second link leads to a PDF document where the last exercises we have corrected are solved (you find the solutions, and the procedures followed).

Learning Computer Science - Programming

Starting with the "Hour of the Code" (special activity of the Computer Science Education Week 2013), there are several activities you can do to self-learn how to create programs/apps using different types of computational languages. It is funny and very useful. There is a brilliant future for good computer scientists!!!
